Homework: Review your notes

Exit Question: What is the difference between the carbon footprint of developing versus developed countries?

Class: AP Environmental Science

Learning Objective: Students understand the concept and impact of the Tragedy of the Commons

Science Practice Theme:  Humans have had an impact on the environment for as long as they have been around.

Openers/Reminders: Recall the implecations of population size and resource use on impact on the environment.

What will happen: Roll call/ Textbooks/ Review first day concepts/ Chapter 1 notes/ Harden Reading and questions in groups/ Handout Chapter 1 questions

Chapter: 1

Homework: Begin reading chapter 1/ work on chapter 1 questions/ Finish Harden questions if they were not completed in class

Exit Question: Do we live sustainably? Although this gives away the answer - why not?

 

Date: August 24th or August 25th

Class: AP Environmental Science

Learning Objective: Students understand that there is solar capital and natural capital and that the enviroment provides us with many services.

Science Practice Theme:  Technology and population growth have enabled humans to increase both the rate and scale of their impact on the environment.

Openers/Reminders: You do not have to bring your textbooks to class, you may leave them at home.

What will happen: Chapter 1 notes/ Tragedy of the Commons video/

Chapter: 1

Homework: Read Chapter 1 and work on chapter questions/

Exit Question: Think of a resource in your life taht the Tragedy of the Commons applies to.

Class: AP Environmental Science

Learning Objective: Students understand that resources are global and finite

Science Practice Theme:  Technology and population growth have enabled humans to increase both the rate and scale of their impact on the environment.

Openers/Reminders: There is no such thing as away and there are no new resouces coming to the planet except solar energy.

What will happen: Chapter 1 notes/ Happy Fishing activites in groups of 4

Chapter: 1 and 2

Homework: Work on the chapter 1 and 2 questions. They will be due when you have a chpater 1/2 test.

Exit Question: Why did you not survive in the game? What was the reason that within a few years all the families were gone?

Openers/Reminders: DO NOT get behind in the reading and questions!/ Unit 1 test will be on the 3rd or the 8th depending on the period.

What will happen: Chapter 2 notes/ Reading The Lorax and answering questions/ Review seeing these lessons on this website

Homework: Read Chapter 2/ Finish The Lorax questions if not completed in class - a pdf of the book is linked on the assignments pages, as well as the questions

Exit Question: Why was he called the ONCELER? and why was it called a THNEED?

Class: AP Environmental Science

Learning Objective: Students will understand that energy comes in many forms and that matter is neither created or destroyed.

Science Practice Theme:  Science is a process

Openers/Reminders: No school Friday September 4th (Admissions Day observed) or Monday September 7th (Labor Day)

What will happen: Summer Assignment is due!/ Unit 1 test will be on the 3rd or the 8th depending on the class/

Period 2 we have the 9th grade Code of Conduct assemblywhich means that they must watch the videos at home/ Review sheet for the Unit test will be given out/ Feedback video and Human Impact Video (period 2 will have to watch these 2 videos at home because of the Assembly - they are linked under Units)/ Chapter 2 notes

Homework: Read Chapter 2 and complete chapter questions/ Study for the test/ The study guide will not be collected this is to help you study for the test

Exit Question: How much time will you dedicate to studying for the test? (now double that)

 

 

Date: September 3rd or September 8th

Class: AP Environmental Science

Learning Objective: Students understand carrying capacity and the impact of populations on the environment.

Science Practice Theme: The human population size has had an impact on the environment.

Openers/Reminders: Systematically turn in your homework and quietly review for the test.

What will happen: Unit #1 test - Chapters 1 and 2/ Homework is due at this time/ Begin Chapter 6 notes/ Chapter 6 Questions passed out/

Chapter: 6

Homework: Begin reading chapter 6 and working on the chapter questions/ Reflect on whether you feel like you studied enough for the test.

Exit Question: What are some factors that have allowed the population to grow exponentially?
